Characterization of the Aluminium Matrix Composite Reinforced with Silicon Nitride (AA6061/Si3N4) Synthesized by the Stir Casting Route

The current work is concerned with the synthesis of aluminium (AA6061-T6) matrix composites (AMCs) reinforced 15 and 20 weight percentages silicon nitride (Si3N4) particulates using indigenously fabricated electric stir casting furnace bottom discharge arrangement. major concern in AMCs ceramic particles wettability route, it was overcome by adding 2% magnesium melt, proper incorporation time, appropriate stirring speed. microstructure mechanical characteristics synthesized AMC were analyzed. Si3N4 are uniformly dispersed optical scanning electron micrographs (SEM). Adding reinforcement to AA6061 increased microhardness, macrohardness, ultimate tensile strength significantly. Microhardness macrohardness AA6161/20 wt.% composite 98 VHN 91 BHN, respectively, which 117.8% 111.63% higher than those alloy, respectively. Ultimate (UTS) 159.82 MPa 249.12 AA6061/20 composite. Percent elongation AA6061/Si3N4 reduced addition reinforcement.
